Two-time University of Calgary alumna and former Dino Tara Hammer was named the first full-time assistant coach in University of Calgary women's hockey history in August 2011.

After three seasons as a player at Mount Royal College, Hammer transferred to the University of Calgary in 2003. In her lone season with the Dinos, she recorded 14 goals and 21 points in 20 games – good enough for second on the team and eighth in the league scoring race. She went on to play for five seasons in the professional Western Women’s Hockey League with the Edmonton Chimos and Strathmore Rockies.

Hammer completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology degree in 2006, then graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching) in 2008. She spent three years as a teacher in the Calgary Board of Education while working for several different female hockey organizations as a coach and administrator.
