As head coach of the Calgary Dinosaurs Soccer Club of the Alberta Major Soccer League in 2010, Brian led his squad to both a league championship as well as a provincial championship, going undefeated at 18-0-3 in the process.

Along with assisting with the Dinos in 2009, McDonnell was an assistant with the Calgary United FC of the semi-professional Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League (CMISL), as well as an assistant with the Mount Royal Cougars of the ACAC in 2008.

As a goalkeeper under former head coach Andy Gibbs, McDonnell accumulated a GAA of 1.69 and four shutouts over his five year career, and was team captain in 2007. Brian played for six years with the Calgary Dinosaurs Major soccer team, winning bronze at the National Championships in 2005, and was also a part of the Calgary United FC of the CMISL for two years as well.

Brian graduated from the University of Calgary with two degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies (2006) and a Bachelor of Education (2008) and has been employed with the Calgary Separate School Division for the past three years as a Junior High Physical Education Teacher. Brian’s wife was a soccer player herself, both for the Mount Royal University Cougars and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
