With honourable mention to track star Sam Effah, Graham Vigrass is the Dinos-Den athlete of the week for March 14, 2010.
A third-year right side, Vigrass stepped up when it mattered most, earning tournament MVP honours as the Dinos captured their fourth CIS men’s volleyball title at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
Vigrass averaged 4.43 kills per set on the weekend, racking up 62 of them while hitting at a 33 per cent efficiency. He was the Dinos’ go-to guy whenever they needed a big point to stem the tide, and he also contributed defensively with 24 digs and seven blocks on the weekend.
He was named player of the match twice in Calgary’s three wins – the quarterfinal vs. Dalhousie and the national final against Trinity Western – and averaged better than 20 kills per match on the weekend.
It was the Dinos’ first CIS men’s volleyball championship since 1993 and their fourth all-time, with wins also coming in 1982 and 1989.
