Playing the final home games of an illustrious CIS career, Calgary Dinos fifth-year left side Raynell Lavertu was a key factor in ensuring her team qualified for the playoffs with an impressive two-match sweep of the Brandon Bobcats.
In Friday night’s opener, a 3-2 Calgary win, Lavertu was money, leading the Dinos with 17 kills to match her season high while adding 12 digs – also a team best. A night later on Seniors’ Night, she was at it again with a match-high 12 kills as the No. 8 Dinos dispatched the No. 4 Bobcats in straight sets, clinching the seventh and final playoff spot in the process.
Lavertu, who moved to the power hitter spot after two years as a full-time libero, leads the Dinos with 175 kills on the year as they head to Winnipeg to close out the regular season against the Wesmen this weekend. Calgary will then head back on the road for the post-season, where Lavertu will look to qualify for her fifth-straight CIS championship tournament after winning a national medal in each of her first four seasons.
