Second year captain Joe Long led the University of Calgary Dinos to a tie and a win on the road over the weekend, keeping them in the playoff hunt just two points behind Victoria for the last playoff spot with a game in hand.

In Saturday’s 0-0 draw with the Golden Bears in Edmonton, the two teams combined for just four shots on goal, with Long as the key shooter for the Dinos. He earned player-of-the-game honours for his efforts. A day later in Saskatoon, Long was again named player of the game after scoring the third Calgary goal to add some insurance with the Huskies pressing late.

Long, a native of Bristol, England, and the Dinos hold their fate in their own hands down the stretch with their final four games at home and two of them against teams they’re fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot. Both go this weekend as Calgary hosts Fraser Valley Saturday and Victoria Sunday, and a pair of wins would vault them into a playoff position heading into the final week of the 2009 season.
