It’s starting to sound like a broken record, but reigning Canada West MVP Matt Walter tore apart another defence on Saturday to lead the third-ranked Calgary Dinos to a 50-26 road win at UBC – Calgary’s first win at Thunderbird Stadium since 2004 – and was named the Canada West offensive player of the week.
On 26 carries, Walter racked up another 188 yards, brining his season total up to 815 after just five games. He is just 89 yards away from tying his career season high of 904, which he set in 2008, and is on pace for a 1,300-yard season.
He added another rushing touchdown to his numbers on Saturday as well, bringing his season total to eight majors (six rushing, two receiving) – which also leads Canada West. He is tied with teammate Aaron Ifield for the conference scoring lead with 48 points, already a career high with three games left on the schedule.
The Dinos (4-1) entertain the Manitoba Bisons (2-2) Saturday at McMahon Stadium before heading into their bye week.
