Freshman swimmer Erica Morningstar has certainly set the bar high for herself.

The rookie freestyler, a 2008 Olympian, had the best CIS swimming championship in University of Calgary women’s history over the weekend. Her accomplishments are staggering – not only did she win four individual and three relay gold medals – winning every event she entered – but she re-wrote the record book as well. Two of her four individual medals came in Canadian record time – the 200-metre IM and the 200-metre freestyle – while she stopped the clock in the 50- and 100-metre freestyle events in CIS championship record time.

Her victories in the two sprint freestyle events garnered her the Sprinter’s Cup – the first time it had been awarded since 2005.

Morningstar also swam three relays for the Dinos, all of which were won in Canadian record time. Named CIS rookie of the year, she led the Dinos to their first-ever CIS women’s title with 791 points – you guessed it, another record.
