Omar Langford was a one-man wrecking crew over the weekend, pounding 54 kills in two matches to lead the fourth-ranked Calgary Dinos to a weekend road sweep of the Regina Cougars, earning Canada West athlete of the week honours.

After entering the weekend with just 36 kills on the season, the 2007-08 conference all-star exploded for 27 kills on 48 attempts in Friday night’s match, a 3-1 Dinos win. Each kill was important in that all four sets were decided by four points or less, and his hitting percentage of .396 was the best of any player on the floor that had at least five attempts on the night. He also led the Dinos in digs with seven.

On a weekend where 27-kill performances in four-set matches happened three times in Canada West (Steve Gotch, UBC vs. Trinity Western), Langford posted eerily similar numbers on Saturday night, again a 3-1 Calgary win where all four sets were decided by four points or fewer. This time, he racked up 27 kills on 47 attempts for a .447 kill efficiency, adding seven more digs and a pair of service aces.

Calgary (7-3) heads into the exam break in sole possession of second place in Canada West , poised to post its best record since 2000-01 (15-7).
