Rachel Machin arguably had the best meet of her career as a Dino at the CIS Track and Field Championships in Edmonton over the weekend. The third year competed in four events, medaling in every one of them and helped bring home Calgary’s fourth national women’s track and field title.
Day one saw the third-year student-athlete compete in five different events for the pentathlon. She finished with a silver medal, just shy of the gold, won by teammate Rachael McIntosh. On the second day of competition, Machin started it off with a silver medal in the 60m hurdles, and capped off the night with her first gold of the meet in the long jump. Her jump of 6.01m was good for first place and a personal best.
On the final day, the Calgary native helped solidify the Dinos team win with a gold in the high jump. Coming in ranked second. She beat out the No. 1 seed with a jump of 1.82, tying a personal best. That night at the banquet, Machin was named Outstanding Athlete of the Meet.
