Fifth-year forward Jessica Franz was dominant down low as the Calgary Dinos opened the 2012-13 Canada West women’s basketball season with a two-game sweep of the Manitoba Bisons.

Over the two games, Franz shot nearly 58 per cent from the field and made all 12 of her free throw attempts to lead the Dinos to 73-54 and 97-66 wins. In Friday night’s opener, she played just 21 minutes and still managed to score a team-high 16 points, picking up seven rebounds.

The following night in a 31-minute effort, Franz put up 26 points and hauled down seven more boards – five of which came off the offensive glass – in the big 31-point victory.

Calgary (2-0) faces Alberta (2-0) in a Thursday-Friday series this weekend at home in the Jack Simpson Gym.
