The Saskatchewan Huskies had lost just one game at home all season – until Dustin Butler and the University of Calgary Dinos rolled into Rutherford Rink this weekend and shut down the highest-scoring team in Canada West.
Butler stopped 55 of the 57 shots fired his way on the weekend as the Dinos scored a major sweep of the Huskies in Saskatoon. Friday night he stopped 35 as the Dinos took a 3-2 overtime decision, while Saturday night he was the star.
The 2010-11 CIS goaltender of the year was sensational in the rematch, stopping all 20 shots he faced, including a penalty shot by Michael Kaye, to shut out the Huskies – the first goalie to record that feat all season.
Butler’s goals-against average on the weekend was an anemic 0.99, while his save percentage was .965. The two wins put Calgary (14-11-1) two points ahead of the UBC Thunderbirds (12-9-3) in the race for fourth spot and a home playoff weekend as the season winds down.
He and the Dinos welcome the first-place Manitoba Bisons to Father David Bauer Arena this weekend, looking to secure home ice advantage as they close the regular season.
