Fifth-year senior Melanie Miazga wrapped up her CIS career at home in style on the weekend, leading her team to a sweep of the No. 2 Trinity Western Spartans that nobody saw coming.
Friday night in the Dinos’ 3-1 win, Miazga connected on 11 of her 23 hitting attempts and added six blocks to pace Calgary.
A night later, after being recognized in a pre-game ceremony for her five years in a Dinos uniform, the former conference all-star went 10-for-25 without a single error, hitting 40 per cent on the night while adding five more blocks as the Dinos stunned the second-ranked Spartans for the second night in a row.
It was Miazga’s best weekend of the season, and it put the Dinos in a good position with a 10-8 record heading into the final weekend of conference play. Miazga and her unranked Dinos head to Regina this weekend to close out the regular season with a two-game set against the Cougars.
