Fifth-year point guard Jenna Kaye was the driving force behind a huge weekend for the Dinos women’s basketball team.
The Dinos welcomed the top two teams in the Pacific Division into the Jack Simpson Gym and emerged with two victories – the first regular season sweep of Victoria, UBC, or both since the 2001 season for the program. Friday’s 69-64 squeaker over Victoria set up a classic 78-75 overtime win against UBC Saturday night, and Kaye was a huge factor both nights.
In 37 minutes on the floor Friday night, Kaye shot 50 per cent from the field, hauled in six rebounds and added five assists to her team-leading 19-point performance. A night later, she was one rebound and three assists from a triple double, scoring 15 – including two clutch free throws in the final seconds of overtime to clinch the victory.
The Dinos, who host the 2012 CIS Women’s Basketball Final 8 March 17-19, sit with a 6-2 record at the break, tied for second spot in the East division.
