He’s sharing a backfield with two other outstanding running backs, but Sunday was Matt Walter’s show at McMahon Stadium.

Walter became the University of Calgary’s all-time leading rusher with 3,788 career yards, eclipsing Elio Geremia’s mark of 3,784 with a 178-yard, three-touchdown performance as the No. 3 Dinos dominated the Alberta Golden Bears 61-7 Sunday afternoon.

He also broke J.P. Izquierdo’s school mark of 27 career rushing TDs and moved into a tie for second place in the Canada West record book for all-purpose touchdowns.

It started with his first carry of the game, which was a career-long 78-yard romp to the end zone after breaking through a sloth of Golden Bears. It was the longest running play in the conference so far this season, and it catapulted the Dinos to the lopsided victory.

Helped mightily by that 78-yard TD, Walter averaged 17.8 yards per carry on the day, adding two more touchdowns on seven- and 12-yard runs.

The Dinos (5-0) enjoy the Thanksgiving bye this weekend before heading to Saskatoon to take on the Huskies (3-2) Oct. 14.
