Third-year University of Calgary defensive lineman was in the face of Saskatchewan Huskies quarterbacks all night Friday.
Gaydosh tied a school and Canada West conference record with four sacks as Calgary held the Huskies to just 90 passing yards in a 38-24 home win Friday at McMahon Stadium, the Dinos’ first home victory over Saskatchewan since October 2000.
Gaydosh set the tone early, bowling his way through the Huskies O-line to get to Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren on the very first offensive play of the game. His second came on the last play of the opening quarter, and he added two more in the fourth – including one on the last offensive play of the game. Gilbert-Knorren and Trent Peterson were each sacked twice by the 6-foot-4, 305-pound Gaydosh, who was the 2009 CIS rookie of the year.
He now sits tied for the conference lead with four sacks on the year. The single-game performance matched two previous four-sack outings in University of Calgary history (Rob Richards, 1995; Chris Konrad, 1992). Cory Bymoen (UBC, 1995) and Michael Little (Simon Fraser, 2004) also recorded four sacks in one game and share the Canada West single-game record.
Gaydosh and the Dinos (4-0) face the winless, 0-4 Alberta Golden Bears Sunday, Oct. 2 at McMahon Stadium in a rematch of the 2010 Hardy Cup, live on Shaw TV and QR77 radio.
