Chris Dobko’s accomplishment Friday night in Regina is rare enough that he’s just the 12th player in University of Calgary history to record the feat.
Dobko’s three-touchdown performance in Calgary’s 51-1 win over the Regina Rams Friday night put him in some elite company. It was the first time since 2002 that it had been done in a conference game, though Anthony Parker did pull the feat last November in the Canada West semi-final, also against the Rams. Dobko joins the likes of Parker, Jamie Elliott, and Don Blair as Dinos with at least three TD catches in a single game.
His first major broke open a tight game with just 16 seconds left in the opening half on a 15-yard pass from Eric Dzwilewski, giving the Dinos a 13-0 lead heading into the break. Just 3:07 into the third quarter, Dobko struck again on a nine-yard pass from Dzwilewski, opening the floodgates for a 24-point quarter by Calgary. His final TD of the night came in the first minute of the fourth quarter on a 40-yard strike from backup pivot Andrew Buckley.
Dobko leads Canada West in receptions (16) and receiving touchdowns (4) after three weeks of the season.
The No. 3-ranked Dinos (3-0) host the Saskatchewan Huskies (2-1) this Friday night at McMahon Stadium.
