Hosting the CIS championships for the first time in nearly 40 years, the University of Calgary Dinos were looking for a three-peat as national women’s swimming champions – and versatile third year swimmer Erica Morningstar led the Dinos to just that.

Morningstar won six more gold medals, bringing her career total to 20 as the Dinos defeated UBC by 130 points to win their third national title in as many years. For her efforts, Morningstar was named CIS swimmer of the year thanks to her two outstanding times in the 200 individual medley and the 100-metre breaststroke, posting a combined FINA score of 1743. She was a part of all three gold medal relays for the Dinos, giving the team a four-second lead after the opening leg of the 4x200-metre freestyle relay Friday night.

The third-year Regina native and 2008 Olympian next heads to the World Championship Trials and will likely represent Canada at the 2011 worlds in Shanghai, China.
