Second-year Calgary wrestler Brian Hutton had a coming-out party of sorts on the weekend at the Canada West wrestling championships in Saskatoon.

Wrestling in the 68 kg weight class, Hutton gave up just two points in his first two matches, then captured his third-round bout on a fall to win his first Canada West gold medal. His victims included Saskatchewan’s Alex Kelly, Mark Ballon of Regina, and Alberta’s Pawel Romanowski.

In the process, he qualified for the CIS championship for the second straight year and was named the Canada West most outstanding wrestler by the conference’s coaches.
