Junior forward TORRIE WHEAT of the University of Calgary Dinos has been named the Canada West Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2008.
The 6'2", 180-pound Business student from Nanaimo, B.C. scored six goals, including a four-goal game, as the Dinos split their conference opening series with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Sept. 26-27. The third-year forward opened the season with a two-goal effort in Calgary’s 4-3 loss in the season opener versus the Thunderbirds on Friday night and then doubled his goal production on Saturday with four goals as the Dinos earned the series split with a 10-1 victory.
Wheat registered a natural hat trick in the third period and rounded out his four-goal game with a powerplay goal with under three minutes to go. With his six goal weekend, Wheat jumps into the Canada West Hockey conference scoring lead with six goals in two games.
