Not even a bout of food poisoning could stop University of Calgary middle Graham Vigrass last weekend.
Vigrass, the 2010 CIS championship MVP, continued to impress this weekend as he led the Dinos to a pair of tight 3-2 victories over the UBC Thunderbirds, keeping Calgary’s season unblemished at 10-0 and padding his individual statistics in the process.
In Friday night’s match, the fourth-year science student racked up 23 kills – a whopping eight of which came in the fifth set, a 15-8 Calgary win.
Friday night after the game, Vigrass was stricken with food poisoning and was doubtful to play for Calgary in Saturday’s match-up. Subbed in late in the first set, however, Vigrass fought through the sickness and was even better than the night before, leading the Dinos to another five-set win after going down 2-0 to UBC. He finished Saturday with 20 kills in just over four sets’ work, finishing the weekend with 43 kills, a .443 hitting percentage, and 10 blocks.
Vigrass currently sits second in Canada West in hitting percentage and third in total kills. He and the Dinos head to Langley, B.C. this weekend to face the Trinity Western Spartans in a rematch of last year’s CIS championship match.
