If there can be a turning point in a 56-3 game, sophomore defensive lineman Linden Gaydosh provided it for the Calgary Dinos.
With Calgary leading 10-3, Gaydosh intercepted Alberta quarterback Julian Marchand at the 20-yard line when Travis Payne got to the Bears’ pivot. Gaydosh, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 320 pounds, rumbled into the end zone to kick-start a series of three touchdowns in six minutes for the Dinos that put the game out of reach.
It was the second INT in three games for Gaydosh, who also picked off Queen’s quarterback Danny Brannagan in the 2009 Vanier Cup.
Gaydosh added a pair of tackles on the day as the Calgary run defence did another solid job, limiting the Golden Bears to just 106 yards along the ground.
Their third straight Hardy Cup title in tow, the Dinos host the AUS champion Saint Mary’s Huskies Saturday afternoon in the CIS Mitchell Bowl at McMahon Stadium. Kickoff goes at 1:30 p.m. MT, with the winner advancing to the Desjardins Vanier Cup Nov. 27 at PEPS Stadium in Quebec City.
