The University of Calgary has one of the top varsity wrestling coaches in the country in Mitch Ostberg who has been with the Dinos wrestling program for over 30 years.
Ostberg has attained his Canada Coaches Association National Certification Level IV and has been recognized for his international coaching accomplishments, receiving the prestigious Wittenauer Coaching Award of Excellence on three occasions.
In U SPORTS competition, Ostberg has coached the Dinos to four women's national championships, most recently in 2007. He was named U SPORTS Women’s Coach of the Year in 1999, 2000, and 2001. In conference competition, the Dinos have earned 17 Canada West Championships between the men's and women's wrestling teams under Ostberg, including women's championships in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016 and again most recently in 2024 and 2025. He has been named the CW Coach of the Year 11 times over the years – eight on the women's side and three on the men's.
