CALGARY – University of Calgary tight end Max Williston spends plenty of time at McMahon. The 23-year-old native of Burlington, Ont., has played football in the stadium, eaten at the stadium, watched events in the stadium and worked at the stadium. The only thing Max has not done is sleep at the stadium. But he came close.

"I worked real late one evening and had to be in very early the next day. I came close," Williston stated with a grin.

Like with the Dinos football team, Max has done a wide array of tasks during his three years of employment at the stadium. His duties are vast. Cutting the grass, fixing a gate, welding and basic maintenance are among the wide spectrum of tasks Williston has done. Just prior to the start of Dinos football fall training camp, Max was involved in getting the stadium prepared for the motocross event in early August. He's been involved in making the stadium's transition from a football field to a soccer pitch for Calgary Wild games.

"I do what is required," stated Williston, who secured the job after getting to know the custodians when he started playing for the Dinos three years ago.

"I needed a job, wanted to stay in Calgary and train with the team," stated Williston, who was referred to Operations Manager Craig McIntyre, who hired him.

"There is a rich history to this stadium that has hosted many events, and I get to see what is involved in making an event successful," Williston stated.

"I have and continue to spend many hours around here (McMahon Stadium)," stated Williston, who is in his fourth year of an undergrad degree in architecture and design. When time permits with his academic and athletic schedules, Max works the odd shift during the academic year.

Like with the McMahon Stadium job, Max has had, and has, a lot of different roles with the Dinos football team and does what is required to help the team succeed.

He started his career four years ago as an offensive lineman, moved to the defensive side of the ball, and this year he will be on offence as a tight end. In addition, he is one of the team's snappers on punts and field goals on special teams.

His attitude and versatility have earned him the respect of the coaching staff.

"Max is the ultimate team guy. He has done everything we have asked of him. When we were establishing team culture, he has been one of the key veterans moving things forward," states Dinos head coach Ryan Sheahan.
