Dinos set to close out regular season against Alberta

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos close out the regular season on the road this Saturday, as they visit the Alberta Golden Bears at Foote Field in Edmonton.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. MT as we enter Week 8 of the Canada West season. Fans can watch live at canadawest.tv, with live stats available at GoDinos.com.

HEADLINES

  • The Dinos are 2-5 and are still alive for the fourth and final Canada West playoff spot. They need a win in Edmonton and a Manitoba win over the Regina Rams the same day.
  • The Golden Bears won the first meeting this season 42-35 at McMahon stadium on Sept. 25, with running back Seth Poelzer setting a program record for rushing yards in a game with 296.
  • Calgary leads the all-time series 66-54 with two ties, and holds a 6-4 edge over the last 10 meetings. During that time however, the home side have won only twice.
  • This is the regular season finale for both teams. The Canada West semifinals are set for Saturday, Nov. 7.

University of Calgary Dinos (2-5)

  • Quarterback David Jordan has completed 121 of 185 passes (65.4%) for 1,442 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Jet Zakrzewski has added 365 passing yards. Zakrzewski threw for 181 yards and ran for 63 more in last week's game against Manitoba.
  • Sibley leads Canada West in receptions (46), receiving yards (776) and receiving yards per game (110.9). Matthieu Clarke leads the ground game for the Dinos with 467 yards on 96 carries (66.7 yards per game)
  • Everett Schmuland remains atop of the total tackles made this year with 50.0, with Osasere Odemwingie in second (47.5)

University of Alberta Golden Bears (1-6)

  • Alberta's lone win this season came in the first meeting with Calgary. The Golden Bears most recently fell to a narrow 21-19 loss against Saskatchewan on a walk-off field goal.
  • QB Christian Veilleux is 97 of 196 on pass attempts, racking up 1166 total yards in five games.
  • Alberta ranks third in Canada West in yards per rush and fourth in total rushing yards. Poelzer's record-setting day against the Dinos is the high mark of that attack.
  • Rookie Sirani Brown rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries in his first career start against Saskatchewan.
  • Defensive Back Tanner McBride leads the solo tackles chart in Canada West with 35, five more than Everett Schmuland in second.
