CALGARY –
Vince Triumbari of the Calgary Dinos football team has been named the Canada West BioSteel Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
It was a strong start to season for Triumbari. The the fifth-year kicker from Stoney Creek, Ont., was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals, connected from 21 and 34 yards. He added three singles following touchdowns but he saved his best for last. With the game on the line and the Dinos trailing by one with just six seconds remaining in regulation, Calgary turned to Triumbari's powerful leg. The kicker responded with a booming kickoff that caromed through the end zone for another single to send the game to overtime.
In all, Triumbari scored 10 points in Friday's opener.
This marks the first time this season and fourth time in his career Triumbari has been honoured as the league's weekly top athlete.
The Dinos are back at McMahon Stadium once again in Week 2, hosting Manitoba Friday night at 7 p.m.
