Battle of Alberta Friday at McMahon

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos (0-2) return home and look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host the University of Alberta Golden Bears (1-1) at McMahon stadium.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MT on Friday as the Dinos get set for their second of four home games this season.

Calgary is still looking for its first win of the 2022 campaign after falling just short against the Regina Rams in Week 2 and will look to the jumpstart their season against their neighbours from the north.

Headlines
  • The provincial rivals faced off twice just once in the shortened 2021 season, a 36-30 win for the Bears.
  • Previous to last year's loss, the Dinos had won 10 of the last 11 matchups between the two squads.
  • Calgary seems to have drawn a tough schedule to begin the 2022 season, as both losses this season have come against the only two remaining undefeated teams in the Canada West – the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Rams.
  • The Bears will come to McMahon Stadium riding high after picking up their first win of the young season last weekend with a convincing 34-11 win over the Manitoba Bisons.
  • Each team had a player win a Canada West award in Week 2, as Dinos' kicker Vince Triumbari was named Special Teams Player of the Week, while Bears' receiver Kolby Hurford took home Offensive Player of the Week.
  • This game will be the first of two meetings over the next month for the Alberta squads, as Calgary will head north for a rematch on Oct. 15.

  • After falling behind 32-9 to the Rams in Week 2, the Dinos put together their best quarter of the season to score 15 unanswered points against the Rams in the fourth quarter. They came inches away from evening up the game on a last second heave from Daniel Sananes, that ended up being picked off by the Rams.
  • Gob Deng and Ben Britton both had strong games to spark Calgary's aerial attack, finishing with a combined 11 receptions for 154 yards.
  • Receiver Matt Sibley had an incredibly efficient game last week, turning his only two receptions of the game into scores to bring the Dinos within striking distance.
  • Calgary will look to spark the run game against the Bears, as their three running backs combined for just 34 yards last week against Regina.
  • Linebacker Daniel Flanagan was everywhere for the Dinos against the Rams, leading the team with a game-high 11 total tackles.
  • Next weekend, the Dinos will head east to take on the Manitoba Bisons at IG Field.
