Dinos carry momentum into final home game

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos (1-5) return to McMahon Stadium for their final home game of the 2022 season when they host the No. 8 Regina Rams (4-2) on Saturday afternoon.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT where the Dinos will look to build off the momentum of their first win of the season against the Alberta Golden Bears last weekend. Meanwhile, the second-place Rams are looking to get back on track after losing to the Saskatchewan Huskies in Week 6.

The game can be streamed on CanadaWest.TV and Telus Optik.

HEADLINES
  • The two squads met back in Week 2 where the Rams defeated the Dinos, 32-24.
  • Regina's only two losses of the season have both come against the undefeated Huskies. The Rams lost both games by a combination of four points - a three-point loss last week and a one-point defeat in Week 3.
  • Calgary's first win came in large part to a strong effort on the defensive side of the ball, where they gave up just 271 yards of offence to the Bears and only allowed 13 first downs.
  • With a win in either of their final two games, the Rams can lock up a home playoff date in the Canada West Playoffs.
  • The Dinos will need to win out and get some help as they look to get hot at the right time and sneak their way into the postseason.

Last Week: beat Alberta 24-11
Next week: at Saskatchewan
  • Jordan Chizda had a breakthrough game against the Bears, as the first-year defensive back recorded the first two interceptions of his career, bringing one back 33-yards for a score.
  • Quarterback Daniel Sananes threw for a season-high 317 yards against Alberta, including 118 yards to Mikel-Ange Desjardins who also had the most productive game of his young career.
  • The Dinos were able to force Alberta into a season-high 10 punts thanks in large part to constant pressure from their defensive line. Calgary recorded three sacks and seven tackles for loss.
  • Matt Sibley has done it all for the Dinos this season. His 151.2 all-purpose yards per game is good for second in the country and the best in Canada West.
  • A trip to Saskatoon to take on the undefeated Huskies awaits Calgary in the final week of the Canada West regular season.

Regina RamsNO. 8 REGINA RAMS (4-2)
Last Week:  lost to Saskatchewan 23-20
Next week: host Manitoba
  • Regina has won the battle on the line of scrimmage all season, giving up a league-low two sacks, while sacking opposing quarterbacks a league-high 14 times.
  • A large part of the Rams' success up front is thanks to defensive lineman Anthony Bennett, who has a Canada West-leading six-and-a-half sacks. He is currently tied for the school record and needs just one more to break the mark.
  • Noah Pelletier will look to bounce back from a rough performance against the Huskies last week that saw him throw three interceptions, including the game-sealing turnover late in the fourth.
  • The Rams have been the most disciplined team in the league during the 2022 campaign, taking a league-low 43 penalties across six games this season.
  • Regina will wrap up their season at home against the Manitoba Bisons.
