Rick Coleman (BFA '73, BEd '75) has played an integral role in the shaping of the Dinos football program for over 50 years. Starting back in the early '70s as an athlete, Coleman was named a Canada West All-Star three times and helped the Dinos to their first-ever Vanier Cup berth despite the program still being in its infancy in 1975. Almost immediately after his graduation, Coleman started coaching the Scarlet & Gold, getting the best out of the next generation of Dinos athletes with his knowledge of the sport and contagious energy and enthusiasm. He helped coach Calgary to its first Vanier Cup victory in 1983, and was on the sidelines for the '85 and '88 championships, as well. During this time, he – alongside his 1975 Vanier Cup finalist teammates and parents of the 1983 Vanier Cup Champion team – were instrumental in growing the Dinos 5th Quarter, the alumni group that has set the blueprint for supporting university sport in Canada. In so many ways, Coleman's fingerprints are on seemingly every aspect of the Dinos' highly decorated football program.
