Jiggs joined the University of Calgary on September 1, 1966 as the secretary and then the administrative assistant to the Athletic Director and served in that capacity until she retired in 1987. She then worked in the Olympic Oval part time until 1992.
Her first task was to work with Athletic Dennis Kadatz and Dean Dr. Lou Goodwin to help with the Second Century Committee, a huge sports and arts festival hosted by the Universities of Calgary and Alberta to celebrate Canada’s Centennial in 1967.
The University of Calgary Athletic Department was her life. She handled all athletic correspondence, athletic eligibility issues, travel arrangements and other administrative duties. In addition she handled all financial matters including purchasing, month-end reconciliations, budgeting, and gate receipts deposits. Jiggs worked weekends as well as long hours during the week.
She was enthusiastic about the University of Calgary and passionate about the teams that wore the Dinos colors. Ms. Ives was the consummate professional about her job with never a complaint about her workload or the department or university.
In 1987 she received the Margaret Southern Trophy for her dedication to the Department.
“Jiggs” was respected by everyone not only in Canada West at the Conference level but also at the national level by various other individuals throughout what was then Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union.
She had the respect of administrators, coaches, and student-athletes who admired her loyalty and dedication to the athletic program at the University of Calgary.
