Olympic champion
Kelly Bechard (BComm '04) is the first-ever Hall of Fame inductee in women’s hockey, 20 years after the sport made its debut at the University of Calgary. A member of the inaugural team in 1997-98, Bechard was a first-team conference all-star and a first team All-Canadian in 1998. She returned to the team in the 1999-2000 season, scoring nine points in eight games. The Regina, Sask. native was a member of the senior national team from 2000-08, winning an Olympic gold medal in 2002 in Salt Lake City along with four IIHF World Championship titles.
Bechard stuck with the Dinos for five seasons and was behind the bench when the Dinos captured the 2012 national championship, the first in school history.
The Dinos iced the Université de Montréal Carabins 5-0 in the final.
After serving as an interim head coach for the 2013-14 season while Goyette worked with the Olympic team, Bechard left the Dinos following season.
Now embracing her career with Scotiabank full-time, Bechard uses the lessons she learned with the Dinos to help power her career in the banking world.
