Jodi Evans excelled both on and off the court in women’s basketball from 1987 through 1991 while at the University of Calgary. She is regarded as one of the top all-around student-athletes to ever wear a University of Calgary Dinos uniform.

Evans epitomized perfection in what ever she did. A Dean’s List in the Faculty of Management, (now the Haskayne School of Business), she graduated with Distinction.  Jodi was named University of Calgary Rhodes Scholar in November 1991 attending Oxford University in England where she graduated with a D.Phil (PhD) in Management Studies. She received numerous other academic awards while attending the U of C.

On the basketball court Jodi was a phenomenal all-around player who could shoot, rebound, and handle the basketball. Evans joined the Dinos in September 1987 after a stellar high school career at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary.

She was a Canada West all-star four times during her five-year career leading the women’s basketball team to four consecutive Canada West Championships from 1988 to 1991. She was starting member of the Calgary’s 1989 National Championship team that were unbeaten during the 1988-89 season. She was a vital part of the Calgary team that went unbeaten for 69 straight games from October 28, 1988 to March 10, 1990 against both CIS and NCAA competition.  In addition she was also a starting member of the two Calgary teams that were CIS silver medalists in 1988 and 1990 and a starting member of the 1991 CIS bronze medalist team.

Individually Jodi was named unanimous Canada West and CIS Player of the Year in 1991 and was a CIS All-Canadian on two separate occasions. She was Canada West triple-crown winner in 1991 leading the Conference in scoring, assists, and rebounds. Evans was recognized by the Calgary media and was named Calgary Female Athlete of the Year winning the Henry Viney Trophy. In addition she was named University of Calgary Female Athlete of the Year in 1991 and was named a College of Sports Information Directors of America Academic all-American in 1991.

She is currently the school’s seventh all-time leading scorer averaging 12.3 points per game. Jodi was a member of the Canadian National women’s team for nine seasons (1988-1996) and closed out her international career playing in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
