Podporin grabs All-Canadian nod

| By:
KAMLOOPS, B.C. (CIS) – Fifth-year middle Oleg Podporin of the University of Calgary Dinos was named a second-team All-Canadian Wednesday night.

The honour was announced at the All-Canadian Awards Dinner in Kamloops, B.C., ahead of this weekend's CIS Men's Volleyball Championship hosted by Thompson Rivers University. The tournament gets underway Friday, and the Dinos - making their first appearance since 2003 - take on Atlantic champion Dalhousie in their quarterfinal at 9 p.m. MT (LIVE WEBCAST).

The senior native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Podporin earns the national honour for the first time in his career. He led Canada West in hitting percentage at .453 on the season, was the Dinos' leading blocker, and was a key factor in Calgary returning to the national championship.

Brandon's Paul Sanderson earned the CIS player of the year award, while UBC's Blair Bann was named libero of the year. Kevin Tillie of the host Thompson Rivers WolfPack grabbed top rookie honours.
