CHENEY, Wash. - Dinos Cross Country spent the weekend traveling south of the border to compete at the Eastern Washington University Cross Country Invitational. The competition included teams from University of Montana, Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington University.
The Calgary women's team put in an outstanding performance, which was led by 5th year Heather Sim. Heather led from the gun and never looked back, post a winning time of 18:07. Dinos rookie Debby Querengesser ran strongly through the field to post a bronze medal finish with a time of 18:47. Calgary's domination of the filed was solidified by the strong performances of the three other scorers: 5th year Erin Sask, 18:49 (4th); 5th year Lindsy McNicoll, 18:57 (6th); and 2nd year Faye Stenning 19:10 (8th).
On The men's' side Calgary took a 3rd place finish behind Eastern Washington and Montana, respectively. Eastern Washington Hometown boy, Paul Limpf led most of the race and wore down the competition as the race progressed. Top man for the Dinos was 1st year Gavin Hamilton placing 5th with a time of 25:37. Adding to the strong Dinos showing were fellow team scorers: 5th year Travis Cummings, 25:58 (9th); Rookie Spencer Pootz, 26:08 (11th); 3rd year Scott Nicol, 26:27 (14th) and rookie Matthew Spendiff, 26:36 (17th).

The next race for the Dinos is the Stewart Cup. Calgary's Canmore Park will host the Stewart Cup on Saturday, Oct. 25 and will see top teams from across Western Canada (Calgary, Manitoba, Regina, Saskatchewan and Alberta) come to Calgary to compete and make final preparations for the CIS Championships in November.
